Crosses

Crosses

Lost: symbols of your eternal pain
two nails entwined
by a jeweler’s art
A flash of gold on a chain.

I’ve misplaced the crosses
worn in my life
silver, gold, steel
the substance of my faith.

It’s brought back to me this time
in a thread of copper wire
woven through a pierced
nickel heart.

I wear it with humility, plain.
