Five Intelligible Words

“Five Intelligible Words” I Corinthians 14:19

Pluck them carefully (be choosy)
from a store of ten thousand or more.
Sift through the nonsense, the frippery, the redundant.

Find solid, plain words of extraordinary
beauty, wrapped in simplicity,
make of them a gift.
Present this gift in person
to someone in need….
A friend, a neighbor, a sister, a brother..

And here for the reader of this poem
unwrap these words, engrave them on your heart
(as I have mine)
“Jesus came to save sinners”
Now what words will you pick
and for whom?

  1. Last week I looked through my box of “special things.” They are all notes and cards of many sorts since I was a young girl. The written word is especially meaningful to me. Many others feel the same way. Thank you, Darlene.

I like the stark challenge at the end. So much of living is about our “words”. Thanks

  3. This is really wonderful, Darlene!
