A Doe

A Doe, A Deer

A flicker
A movement
ears, triangular
twitch
a narrow face.
Just inside
the shelter of the wood.
She gives herself away
cannot keep completely
still.
I only know she’s there
whenever she moves.
Her ears twist
one direction to another.
Now I discern
her reclined form.
She is resting, alert.
And is she alone
I spy no others.
Pregnant
and when will she
birthe her fawn?
She gathers herself up.
Ambles on.
Gone from sight.
Her camouflage complete.
